RHYTHMIC GODDESS TRAINING: Women & Rhythm with Tahya:
"Take a step back in time and move forward with your life."

Sunday afternoon 3-class program: April 19 ~ May 17 ~ June 14 @ Tahya Studios, Lehigh Valley, PA

Tahya presents Rhythmic Goddess Training a 3- month (April thru June) enriching study of the Healing Power of the Drum, Ritual and being in Rhythm with the Goddess.

* 1:00 to 2:30 pm * Class size limited to six participants; please register ASAP!

Training will include "Being in Rhythm": i.e., learning the practical elements of the frame drum: strokes, rhythms, being in time together, and the metaphysical associations of the Goddess and the frame drum. Bring a Middle Eastern style Tambourine or Tar. We will also "Drum Your Prayers" ~ i.e., create ritual space with the drum. Particpants invoke blessings with rhythm, chant and drumming.

Join Tahya for a fun class incorporating rhythm, percussion instruments and movements designed to awaken new ideas and expand creativity. Process along a path of empowerment. Rediscover your natural state of well being. Explore rhythmic patterns steeped in antiquity and women's ancestry. Inspired by her recent travels to Egypt Tahya will also delve into the use of the sistrum in ancient temple ceremonies dedicated to Hathor, the Ancient Egyptian goddess of love, music. Percussion instruments provided.

SATURDAY, MAY 30, 2009 ~ Tahya and Grant Smith present "Rhythm & Rhyme" ~ recitations of Rumi and Hafiz and inspired drumming and dance @ Touchstone Theatre, Bethlehem

Tahya and Grant Smith present a Dance, Poetry & Percussion Performance. (To see a photo collage, click here and for more information, visit Poetry & Percussion Performance.

The Boston Globe calls Grant Smith a "brilliant improviser." He is involved in many world music, jazz, classical, and dance projects in Boston and New York, and it is with great enthusiasm we welcome Grant to the Lehigh Valley! He plays drum set and percussion, including hand drums and Timpani, as well as mallets. He has toured extensively, including Thailand, Australia, and Europe. Despite high profile gigs such as tympani with Itzhak Perlman, Grant still insists that his biggest gig was the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade with Kermit the Frog and Big Bird.

Inspired by her recent travels to Egypt, Tahya invites you to witness the images from temple sites sacred to ancient Egyptian civilization and to explore the history, mystery and rhythms of the sistrum, a percussion instrument used in ancient temple ceremonies dedicated to Hathor, the Ancient Egyptian goddess of love, music.
