Some of the most significant nuances of Danse Orientale are its intriguing rhythms and the smooth, fluid movements with a rich history dating back thousands of years.
Using Middle and Far Eastern traditional, sacred and secular music while remaining true to the roots, rhythms and art of Danse Orientale,
Tahya Technique(tm) classes start with the basics including postural alignment, isolations, and hip articulation, and progress to choreography focusing on the
dancer's relationship to the music, including pointers on how to construct your own dance.
The drumming & dances I promote, perform and teach are traditions deeply steeped in a connection to Mother Earth,
and in my classes I invite participants to relax into the core of our being and allow the rhythm and movement to re-establish a strong connection to who we really are.
Furthermore, we arise and celebrate our beauty, confidence, grace and ancestral wisdom through the slow and sensual moves of these ancient arts perfectly suited to EVERY WOMAN!
ALL ages! BTW, I recently had a conversation with a 14 yr. old who has been introduced to the dance via television and she was as enthused as I remain today (after 30+ years of riding this magic carpet),
and she was as eager to get started as anyone in my classes. I told her in my classes I've enjoyed the company of young girls and women from ages 8 to 80. I have witnessed first hand: Each of us uniquely discovers something about herself through the dance as unique as what she brings to it.
Tahya Technique(tm) also incorporates finger cymbal accompaniment and introductory drumming classes which review the basic strokes and dance rhythms affording class participants in-depth understanding of the rhythms. Tahya's class participants also discover the spiritual aspects of belly dance and express relief from stress while having fun. All shapes, sizes and ages are welcome.

I find belly dancing to be an excellent low-impact, full-body workout, one that can improve balance, grace and strength.
I also enjoy the opportunity to dress up and tap into my inner goddess.

Rediscover authentic rhythm and movements honoring different cultures while bringing a dramatic, spiritual, mystical dimension to your dance.
The TAHYA TECHNIQUE (TM) is an essential component to your Danse Orientale repertoire. Private lessons are primarily geared for the intermediate to advanced level Danse Orientale enthusiast; however, all levels of dancer are welcome as we summon the mystery and magic of these ancient traditions. No matter what your dance skill level, this class is for *YOU*
Following a short review of basic movements and vocabulary, the class then moves on to isolations and combinations of hip articulation *with* complimentary upper body, hand and arm movements influenced by classical Indian, Persian and Lebanese dance. Special attention is also given to learning finger cymbal accompaniment via in-depth understanding of the rhythms. In addition, techniques are explored that allow poetic thoughts to imbue body movement.

HEALTHY YOU PROGRAMSTake a walk on the "Nile side"!
INTRO to BELLY DANCING for FUN & FITNESS: Wedneday evenings & Tuesdays at noon
FUN & FLIRTY: Participation in this class includes introduction to basic belly dance movement vocabulary while we strengthen and tone your muscles, improve you coordination and flexibility, condition your cardiovascular system and renew your enthusiasm. Discover your personal creative resources! The exotic music will transport you to another time and culture.
Art of Belly Dance: Tuesdays and Fridays at 10:45 a.m.
This class is designed for women who want to go beyond the basics to further explore the magic and mystery of the movement of belly dance such as snake arms and shimmies. The core isolations of bellydance bring relaxation and strength to the entire body. Participants express relief from stress while having fun. Other benefits include an improved sense of well being, better body image and uplifted self esteem. All shapes, sizes and ages are welcome. We also begin to work with the veil and, as time permits, we also begin to work with finger cymbals in this class! The exotic music will transport you to another time and culture.

SULTRY & DYNAMIC: Bollywood Dance is inspired by the song and dance sequences found in Bollywood films mingling elements of traditional Indian dance with a little jazz, modern, and Danse Orientale. Enjoy sultry, dynamic and exotic Bhangra Beats inspiring easy-to-learn moves which provide a great workout and tone your core, hips and thighs!Tahya, Thank you again for bringing your exuberant energy to another exciting and fun workshop!
I've used the mudras you taught in the opening and closing stretching exercises in my Pilates class,
