Enchantment and inspiration abound in "Rhythm & Rhyme." Together with percussionist Grant Smith and guest artist Michael MacCubbin, performance artist Tahya invited the audience on a magic carpet ride through mystical poetry, intoxicating drum and dance. Tahya recited beautiful verses from poets who understand the language of the heart ~ the words of Rumi, Hafiz, and Leonard Cohen came to life at Musikfest's Volksplatz stage on a sultry summer afternoon.
"Tahya and Grant Smith's performance of ' Rhythm and Rhyme' combines an exquisite blend of soaring prose and grounding drumbeats that awaken your senses, stir your heart, and move your soul. Their combined expertise into a unique presentation of culture, history, music, and words is a gift for audiences of all ages."
- Toni Kellar, Cambridge, OHAlso performing, some for the first time, were participants from Tahya's classes together with long standing members of her ensemble (Troupe Bannat Tahya) ~ all of whom blossomed in an array of colorful "goddess dresses" (Moroccan double dress) adorned with beaded braided ribbons wrapped around chiffon headscarves. They processed to the stage playing sistrum, clackers, finger cymbals, frame drums and tambourines casting a mesmerizing spell, enchanting the audience. A magical mood and cooperative spirit was also enjoyed amidst the performers backstage.
Sincere thanks to all the performers ~ most especially Grant Smith who joined us from Boston!
